Le directeur de l\u2019institution, Tom Honeyman, a su percevoir l\u2019importance de cette peinture dans l\u2019ensemble de l\u2019\u0153uvre de l\u2019artiste et a \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019artisan de son acquisition. Au-del\u00e0 de sa beaut\u00e9 indiscutable et de l\u2019\u00e9clat de son ex\u00e9cution, cette \u0153uvre \u00e9tablit un lien entre deux moments cruciaux de la maturit\u00e9 artistique de Dal\u00ed: son ambition de devenir un classique et sa transition vers la mystique nucl\u00e9aire.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns global-column contingut-ampliat is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n    <div class=\"wp-block-button contingut-ampliat-boto\" data-class=\"contingut-ampliat integrat\">\n        <a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" tabindex=\"0\" >En savoir plus<\/a>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns contingut-ampliat-content is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Une acquisition pol\u00e9mique<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019acquisition du <em>Christ<\/em> par les mus\u00e9es de Glasgow n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 exempte de controverse. Dal\u00ed a vendu l\u2019\u0153uvre ainsi que les droits de reproduction \u00e0 la ville de Glasgow pour une somme consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme \u00e9lev\u00e9e pour l\u2019\u00e9poque. Cette transaction a d\u00e9clench\u00e9 une vive pol\u00e9mique, notamment dans les milieux universitaires \u00e9cossais, qui estimaient que cette somme aurait d\u00fb \u00eatre consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019espaces d\u2019exposition pour les artistes locaux. Malgr\u00e9 cela, <em>Le Christ<\/em> de Salvador Dal\u00ed a \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois \u00e0 Glasgow en juin 1952, devenant un v\u00e9ritable \u00ab\u202f\u00e9v\u00e9nement artistique\u202f\u00bb dans la ville. Le 23 avril 1961, un visiteur a tent\u00e9 de d\u00e9truire la peinture en lac\u00e9rant la toile et en la frappant avec des pierres, ce qui a oblig\u00e9 le Mus\u00e9e \u00e0 la retirer temporairement pour restauration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1993, l\u2019\u0153uvre est transf\u00e9r\u00e9e temporairement au Saint Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art de Glasgow, jusqu\u2019en 2006, date \u00e0 laquelle elle est install\u00e9e de mani\u00e8re permanente \u00e0 la Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Il y \u00e9crit: \u00ab Mon ambition esth\u00e9tique, dans ce tableau, \u00e9tait compl\u00e8tement \u00e0 l\u2019oppos\u00e9 de tous les Christs peints par la plupart des peintres modernes, qui l\u2019ont interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 dans le sens expressionniste et contorsionniste, provoquant ainsi l\u2019\u00e9motion par la laideur. Ma pr\u00e9occupation principale \u00e9tait de peindre un Christ beau comme le Dieu qu\u2019il est.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 partir de la fin des ann\u00e9es quarante, Dal\u00ed entreprend une profonde reformulation de sa pens\u00e9e. \u00c0 son int\u00e9r\u00eat pour la structure atomique, la d\u00e9sint\u00e9gration et la discontinuit\u00e9 de la mati\u00e8re, viennent s\u2019ajouter la mystique et les th\u00e9matiques religieuses, telles que la crucifixion ou les Vierges. Il entre alors dans la phase qu\u2019il baptise lui-m\u00eame \u00ab\u202fmystique nucl\u00e9aire\u202f\u00bb, dans laquelle, \u00e0 la diff\u00e9rence de ses compagnons surr\u00e9alistes, il ne renonce pas \u00e0 son attrait pour les d\u00e9couvertes des sciences physiques du tournant du XXe si\u00e8cle. Comme il l\u2019explique lui-m\u00eame, la mission de peindre cette \u0153uvre, ainsi que les d\u00e9tails de son ex\u00e9cution, lui furent r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9s \u00e0 travers deux r\u00eaves. On y trouve des essais de diff\u00e9rentes compositions, \u00e9voquant la figure du Christ esquiss\u00e9e par saint Jean de la Croix pour un reliquaire conserv\u00e9 aujourd\u2019hui \u00e0 \u00c1vila. Cependant, la majorit\u00e9 des dessins repr\u00e9sentent la figure en contre-plong\u00e9e, dans une vision frontale et flottante, mais avec des variantes, telles que l\u2019image du Christ refl\u00e9t\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dal\u00ed recherche le mod\u00e8le le plus appropri\u00e9 pour transmettre la culmination de la beaut\u00e9 apollinienne de son Christ. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 sa relation professionnelle et amicale avec Jack Warner, directeur de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de production Warner Bros, il fait la connaissance de Russ Saunders, gymnaste californien et cascadeur dans des films d\u2019action. En tant que doublure, Saunders avait particip\u00e9 \u00e0 des films tels que <em>Les Trois Mousquetaires<\/em> (1948) ou <em>Chantons sous la pluie<\/em> (1952). Outre les croquis r\u00e9alis\u00e9s sur le vif, on sait que Dal\u00ed a \u00e9galement utilis\u00e9 des photographies, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des n\u00e9gatifs in\u00e9dits conserv\u00e9s aux archives de la Fondation Gala-Salvador Dal\u00ed, qui ont permis de mieux comprendre son processus de travail. Le Christ se trouve suspendu au-dessus de la baie de Portlligat, de son paysage de vie, baign\u00e9 d\u2019une lumi\u00e8re cr\u00e9pusculaire et de bleus que, selon les mots du photographe Gyenes, \u00ab\u202fil n\u2019avait vus nulle part ailleurs\u202f\u00bb.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns global-column contingut-ampliat is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n    <div class=\"wp-block-button contingut-ampliat-boto\" data-class=\"contingut-ampliat integrat\">\n        <a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" tabindex=\"0\" >En savoir plus<\/a>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns contingut-ampliat-content is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong>Le Christ de Portlligat<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans la lettre publi\u00e9e en 1952 dans <em>The Scottish Art Review<\/em>, Dal\u00ed explique qu\u2019il avait d\u2019abord l\u2019intention d\u2019inclure dans <em>Le Christ<\/em> tous les attributs traditionnels de la Crucifixion. Il souhaitait \u00e9galement transformer le sang en \u0153illets rouges et faire jaillir trois fleurs de jasmin de la plaie du c\u00f4t\u00e9. Cependant, une nouvelle r\u00e9v\u00e9lation \u2014 ou un r\u00eave \u2014 le fit changer d\u2019avis et le poussa \u00e0 ne peindre \u00ab\u202frien que la beaut\u00e9 m\u00e9taphysique du Christ-Dieu\u202f\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le Christ reste suspendu au-dessus de la baie de Portlligat, dans une union saisissante avec le paysage. Portlligat est le paysage affectif de Dal\u00ed. C\u2019est l\u2019une des constantes de son \u0153uvre, qu\u2019il peint encore et encore, et l\u2019un des \u00e9l\u00e9ments qui lui permettent de devenir universel \u00e0 partir de l\u2019ultralocal. Ce paysage est compl\u00e9t\u00e9 par une sc\u00e8ne de la vie quotidienne dans la baie de Portlligat : des p\u00eacheurs s\u2019activant sur la rive. Les figures, toutefois, r\u00e9v\u00e8lent une inspiration tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cise: \u00ab [\u2026] dans un bateau, un personnage de paysan fran\u00e7ais peint par Le Nain, dont le visage seul avait \u00e9t\u00e9 chang\u00e9 \u00e0 la ressemblance d&rsquo;un p\u00eacheur de Portlligat.
